Fort Stanton Historic Site features nearly 160 years of southwestern history and will bring fun and entertainment for the whole family at Fort Stanton LIVE!, Saturday, July 9 from 9:00am to 10:00pm. The military re-enactors are always popular with visitors and scores of Living Historians will be at Fort Stanton portraying the Infantry, Cavalry and Artillery of the pre-Civil War era, the Civil War and the Indians Wars.  Fort Stanton LIVE! will have local food vendors on hand, too, so you and your family can spend the day.

The Cavalry will take to the Parade Ground at 2:00pm for a swashbuckling Saber Exercise and then, more Artillery fire at 3:00pm.  This will be followed by a quiet, sedate and very authentic Victorian Ladies’ Tea Social in the Courtyard at the Nurses’ Quarters at 3:30pm.

Be sure to be where you can see the terrace at 4:00pm because, as the soldiers march out from Fort Stanton, they will be confronted by the Apaches in a recreation of the age old battles that were fought in Lincoln County and throughout the West.

The flag will be lowered in an Evening Flag Ceremony at 5:00pm, marking the end of the day-time activities at Fort Stanton LIVE!  but the day isn’t over in a long shot!  Visitors are invited to “come as you are” or change into your period outfit and dance the night away at the Military Ball on Saturday evening at 7:00pm in historic Chavez Hall.
